The screech of tyres made Susan wince as she stopped on her bike. The new bicycle - 'now look after it, Susan,' she'd been told. Coming home with scuffed tyres wasn't going to go down well. But shed's had to stop-well, anyone would. There used to be houses there, she said out loud-although there wasn't anyone there to talk to, unless you counted the preternaturally large cat sitting on the wall. If Susan had turned round she'd have noticed the animal smiling-another odd thing. Cats don't smile, do they?
